Brockville – Saturday morning in Downtown Brockville close to 55 men and others walked down King Street in red high heels in support of Leeds & Grenville Interval House.
It was for the first ever ‘Walk A Mile in Her Shoes’ fundraiser hosted by Interval House and part of the international Walk A Mile, The International Men’s March to end violence against women.
Prior to the walk participants were given some instruction on how to walk in high heels.
The walk was lead by Brockville Police Chief, Scott Fraser, in a kilt, red high heels and playing the bagpipes. Other participants included Brockville Mayor David Henderson, city Councillor David LeSueur and Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark.
The Leeds and Grenville Interval House is a 10-bed facility that provides a refuge for women and children escaping violence. Ten beds are not enough, the shelter routinely has 12 to 15 women with the overflow sleeping on cots or roll-out beds.
They also provide support and counselling services to another 150 women in the community.
