Brockville – The International Women’s Day Luncheon hosted by the Leeds & Grenville Small Business Enterprise Center presented the Brockville Women in Business (BWB) annual Sue MacLaurin Leadership Award on Tuesday at the Brockville Country Club.

MacLaurin was an active member of BWB who died of cancer in November of 2013. Her legacy lives on through the annual award which this year was presented by Shelli Warren to Christina Covey-Shannon.

Christina Covey-Shannon RBC Financial Planner is a collaborative business leader and community role model. She serves business organizations, is an expert in her field, and of course a friend and supporter of other women. Even a recent injury didn’t stop her from joining in to celebrate International Women’s Day with her peers.

As a Certified Financial Planner and Investment Advisor at RBC with whom she joined 30 years ago, she has many roles at RBC over the years and she continues to focus on helping people build a financial fortress for the future. Her passion for helping people thrive goes beyond wealth building and swings over into building relationships with her volunteer work as she helps people thrive in life.

She shares her time, talent, and treasure in leadership roles with organizations such as: Brockville Relay for Life, Tonita Public School Parents Council, Brockville Minor Hockey, and Brockville Women in Business.

Christina and her husband Rob have also opened their hearts and home as a host family for Canadian Aid for Chernobyl. Being surrounded by her family as well as her extended family of aunts, in-laws and of course her sister Michelle who all embrace her vision and support her is definitely a key to Christina’s’ success.

As did BWB’s dear friend Sue MacLaurin, Christina can be counted upon to lead with purpose, and follow her passions enthusiastically, all with a fun-loving approach to life.

Previous award winners were Shelli Warren of BizChix Inc., Karen McDonald-Hurley of the Opportunity Group, Keeley Patterson of O’Farrell Financial and Terry-Ann Hare of Beauty Inside Day Spa, and Ashley Hill of Podium Sports Therapy.

This award is presented each year at the Leeds & Grenville Small Business Enterprise Center’s Women’s International Day celebration that welcomes the members of Brockville Women in Business, Kemptville Women in Business and women from across our region each year.

The Brockville Women in Business is a growing volunteer organization that serves business women in Brockville and the surrounding area. They meet for a luncheon on the third Tuesday of each at the Brockville Country Club
