BROCKVILLE – Under sunny skies, on Wednesday, April 26, at the Rutley Tower, Fire Ground Compound at St. Lawrence College, Brockville campus, a cheque presentation took place to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation. The St. Lawrence (College) Firefighters class of 2016-2017 presented a cheque for $6,018.51 towards Brockville General Hospital’s Palliative Care Service, for all the great work the staff and volunteers do.
These funds were raised through two craft sales, a seven-month bottle drive, bake sales and a silent auction. Part of the college course Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Program requirement is that each student take an eight-hour hospital placement. As well, community college students need to fulfill 20 community volunteer hours. The students liked the fact that 100 per cent of the funds collected are used locally.
