St. Lawrence College Board of Governors approves budget
The St. Lawrence College (SLC) Board of Governors has endorsed the College’s budget for the 2018-19 fiscal year. The budget of $128M was approved by the Board of Governors at its May 8th meeting this year. The budget will allow SLC to continue to invest in new programs, the student learning experience, its people, and support strategic initiatives.
“As we enter into our final year of our five-year strategic plan, we plan to continue our track record of success through innovation, improvement efforts and capitalizing on opportunities” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “We look forward to developing our new 2019-2024 strategic plan this year.”
The 2018/19 budget includes a $2M investment in strategic initiatives. Highlights of the approved new strategic initiatives include:
- The already completed Innovation Hub, which fosters growth, creativity, critical thinking, self-reflection, collaboration for our students and community.
- An Active Learning Classroom strategy and a pilot to establish classroom technology standards that will provide a comfortable, modern, flexible, easy-to-use, and reliable teaching-learning environment that accommodates a variety of instructional methods with an ability to reconfigure classrooms to meet changing needs.
- Implementation of an Academic Early Alert System to identify at-risk students with an early referral to academic support services. This will support retention and increase satisfaction among students. As well, to enhance the student experience and success, Student Services will implement an integrated Student Engagement platform to provide students with co-curricular opportunities through one central location, and will provide students with enhanced learning opportunities outside of the classroom.
- A comprehensive plan to ensure the success of international students. The plan includes enhancing cultural diversity for our students to be equipped to work in a globalized workforce, broaden the international and intercultural features of course curriculum and teaching, and improve services to address the unique needs of a culturally diverse student population.
SLC is also launching two new programs for the fall of 2018: Media Arts Fundamentals and User Experience Design, adding to our more than 100 full time on-campus and online programs. Developed with community partners, these programs will train students to be career ready, meeting the changing needs of industries with skilled workers possessing expertise in these areas.
