Brockville – This past week the Brockville Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of the 1000 Islands collected and sorted 20,320 lbs. of food and collected $17,000 and counting in cash donations during the annual Rotary Fall Food Drive.

This amount is up over last year’s drive that collected 16,316 lbs. but is unfortunately just shy of their 2017 food drive goal of 26,000 lbs. of food. The amount of cash donations is down as well with the 2017 goal set at $35,000. They are still expecting more donations of money and food. They encourage community members who haven’t yet donated, to donate to the Brockville and Area Food Bank by mailing a cheque or donating on-line on the food bank’s website through Canada helps.org.

This year’s goal of 26,000 lbs. of food and $36,000 in cash donations represents a 3-month food supply cost for the Brockville and Area Food Bank.

The Brockville & Area Food Bank is a 100% Volunteer run charity that serves over 1360 individuals a month of which 40% are children with 5 day emergency supply of food per month. CASH donations are a very important part of the operation as the Food Bank spends, on average, $14,500 per month or $173,000 annually to purchase food to meet the growing demand.

The Brockville & Area Food Bank’s mission is to provide emergency food support for individuals and families in Brockville and the surrounding area in a caring and accessible environment.

The Brockville & Area Food Bank is the second largest food bank in Eastern Ontario, second to Kingston in the number of people we serve each month.
