Letter from Harold Hess: Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau

Hello to our Community Partners:

As non-profits, we are all impacted by the critical decisions made in the last week linked to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Cancellations and changes in daily routines can affect non-profits as we often have a small number of staff and we work on limited budgets that can be impacted by staff absences and program changes.

Just like your organization, we want to ensure that you know the Volunteer Centre is concerned about the wellbeing and health of our clients, volunteers and staff.

In respect to these concerns, the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), which is coordinated by the Volunteer Centre in several communities in Leeds Grenville, is suspended till April 6, 2020.

Prior to this date, we will re-evaluate the status of the program to determine our next steps going forward. Please be aware that we intend to do all we can to meet the needs of all tax clients.

We encourage everyone to check our website (volunteercentre.ca) and our Facebook page for updates.

Going forward from today, our main office at 105 Strowger Blvd (within the Employment and Education Centre) will be open on:

  • Thursday and Friday, March 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday, March 23, 25 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Our staff will be working from home on the other days and available by email through to March 27th at 4 p.m.

We plan to open the office daily for regular hours on Monday March 30th

As of today, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Leeds & Grenville area. It is important that we all remain informed and take the necessary precautions to maintain good health.

We encourage all non-profits to review the information at the following links from the Leeds Grenville Lanark District Health Unit, the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada.

If you have questions about the virus please consult the following websites regularly as they are being updated daily:

Wishing you all the best

Harold Hess
