Brockville – On Wednesday, October 25, Kawartha Credit Union (Brockville Branch) presented a cheque for $5,000 to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation for the purchase of an osimi-electric blood pressure monitoring machine.

“At Kawartha Credit Union, we have a Community Involvement Program that supports the four pillars of the community and one of them is health,” said Brockville Branch Manager, Kathryn Ruttimann. “In fact, we have given more than $2 million to local communities. We are very dedicated in making our communities a better place.”

According to Dr. Donald Argue, the computer features on this machine are programmable when taking blood pressure.  It is especially beneficial for those concerned by the white coat syndrome as a patient can be seated in a private setting, reading an interesting book while the machine automatically sequences a series of blood pressure recordings. It will record the findings, averages them and give feedback.

“For all our patients in for a mental health-related diagnosis, we take a fairly holistic approach,” said Dr. Argue. “We are looking at their general health problems, including hypertension and what not. If you look at a hospital setting the vital signs are always vital.”
