Chamber Names David Beatty as recipient of Lifetime Business Achievement Award

Brockville – The Brockville & District Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to announce the recipient of the 2019 Lifetime Business Achievement Award.

Mr. David Beatty is the eighth to receive this award following previous recipients Bob Runciman, Al Smith, Dave Sheridan, Don Green, Sherri Simzer, John & Steve Mazurek and Dave Jones.
This award is sponsored by the 1000 Islands Community Development Corporation and recipients are chosen by an independent committee of judges following review and assessment of multiple criteria including community impact, mentorship, economic impact, job creation, volunteerism, longevity and personal/corporate generosity.
Mr. Beatty is well known as the long-time Chairman and CEO of Canarm Ltd., an international company with manufacturing facilities located around the world and headquartered in Brockville, Ontario. Employing close to two hundred people locally and hundreds more world-wide, Canarm Ltd. is a very successful global marketer and manufacturer of lighting, air moving and related products.
 
Born in Winnipeg and raised in Brockville, Mr. Beatty is perhaps best known for his generous philanthropic activities and tireless leadership in support of many important causes including Brockville General Hospital, St. Lawrence College, Brockville Aquatarium, Brockville YMCA, United Way of Leeds & Grenville, Brockville Arts Centre, Grenville Christian College, Brockville Tunnel Restoration and countless others. Mr. Beatty also spearheaded the creation of the St. Lawrence Corridor Economic Development Commission and is founder of a local “angel investor” network providing silent capital and ongoing mentoring to multiple start-up companies now employing hundreds across the region.
 
Mr. Beatty holds numerous designations and has won multiple awards including Brockville Citizen of the Year, Brockville Business Person of the Year, Senate of Canada Sesquicentennial Medal and Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award. He is a past Brockville City Councillor and he currently Co-Chairs the multi-million-dollar Brockville General Hospital Redevelopment Campaign.
Mr. Beatty will be celebrated during a special ceremony following the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting scheduled to take place at the Brockville Country Club on Thursday, March 28th.
