BGH Asks United Counties for $2.125-million

Brockville – The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is considering a request from Brockville General Hospital (BGH) to contribute $2.125-million toward its large infrastructure project to add a new wing to the hospital.

BGH’s Acting CEO Jeanette Despatie was part of a delegation before regular council. She noted the local portion of the total bill is $18.5-million. The Brockville and District Hospital Foundation has already raised $10-million and needs another $8.5-million. The Province of Ontario is covering 90% of the build. The total expansion could cost more than $150-million. Construction is to begin late this year or early next year with the project completed in 2020.

“This is a considerable ask,” Ms. Despatie said, noting it is based, in part, on 25% of patients coming from Leeds and Grenville municipalities surrounding Brockville. The funds would be needed by 2020 as the project nears completion. It will include a new five-floor wing and will bring the number of beds up from 148 to 170.

“This is really quite significant in Ontario today,” Ms. Despatie said of adding 22 new beds. The build will also allow BGH to consolidate all of it services and beds from the Garden Street site.
