Brockville – The Brockville Police Service is pleased to announce a new after-school program for grades 7 to 12 at Stingers in Brockville as a result of the Dare to Dream Grant from the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health.
The free program’s official launch is set for Tuesday February 28th at Stingers Indoor Paintball in Brockville.
This program will be a FREE drop in program where youth from grades 7 to 12 can come every Tuesday night from 3:00pm to 5:30pm after school and take part in a variety of programming, sports and recreation, and workshops/guest speakers. Youth will meet, gather, earn, and enjoy a safe, inclusive space that is youth led and adult supported during the after school period once per week.
Youth can arrive and drop in at any point through the time that the after school program is open (3:00-5:30pm). Throughout the drop in program, there will be various structured activities happening, there will be a space to just relax and hang out, as well as a healthy snack will be available on site for youth to access throughout the evening.
Some of the activities that youth will be able to enjoy while at the after school drop in program will be:
· Batting Cages – Baseball Skills Practice
· Basketball Games – Pick-Up and Organized
· Laser tag
· Zorb Soccer Ball
· Various Other Sports & Recreation Games/Activities
· Arts & Crafts / Creative Expressions
Youth will also have the ability to check in with staff and supportive adults to discuss events that are taking place in their lives and receive feedback, supports, referrals, connections to services etc. while they are at the program or they can drop in for that reason alone.
The sky is the limit by opening a drop in program for youth in Brockville, however our main focus remains opening the door for youth to gather in a safe, inclusive adult supported environment where youth can take part in pro-social activities, enjoy some healthy food, and positively engage with supportive adults.
