Avonmore – Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI) won the 2019 Upper Canada Cup Intermediate Boys’ Volleyball Championship, held Wednesday, January 30 in Avonmore at Tagwi Secondary School.
The BCI Red Rams defeated the hosting Tagwi Secondary School Warriors 25-18 and 25-22 to win the championship.
BCI Coach Scott Moore said the victory was particularly sweet because it was the fourth time in as many years the Red Rams had advanced to the tournament, but the first time they had won.
And that victory was a real team effort, he said.
“We had two very balanced lines and our boys worked very well together on the court,” said Moore of the reason for the title. “Our serving was also probably the best in the tournament.”
BCI was challenged by Thousand Islands Secondary School in the semis, falling 25-14 in the first set, but then rebounding to gain a berth in the final by taking the next two 25- 18 and 15-8.
Tagwi defeated North Grenville District High School in their semi to advance to the final.
