Reporting to the Executive Director of the Brockville & District Chamber of Commerce, the individual will provide leadership to the Tourism team and will perform the executive duties for the Tourism Advisory Committee.
Required Skills & Experience:
5+ years experience in a leadership role
Experience in marketing & advertising
Proficient with computer technology and MS Office programs
Knowledge of Brockville and familiarity with activities and services in the area
Able to manage income and expenses to align with annual budget
Able to manage a variety of projects, tasks and deadlines
Experience in government funding and grant writing
Specific Duties Include, but are not limited to:
Income Generation and Fundraising Marketing and Advertising
The Tourism Manager will arrange for the advertising and marketing programs chosen by the Tourism Advisory Committee. The Tourism Manager will be involved/or take on the selling of advertising and obtaining funding from government and other partners for media programs that have been selected by the committee. The Tourism Manager will measure the effectiveness of all marketing and advertising efforts and make recommendations to the committee for improvements and changes. The Tourism Manager with input from the Chamber Executive Director will be responsible for publishing a Brockville promotion piece (visitor guide and map).
The Tourism Manager will investigate ways to fund the Tourism office that may include selling services to the tourism business in the area, selling products, cooperative funding arrangements and other promotional ventures. The Tourism Manager will also investigate government funding sources and programs that are in line with the direction and focus set by the committee and will prepare proposals and applications for these programs.
Tourism Advisory Committee Operation
The Tourism Manager will provide logistical support for the Committee including organizing and attending committee meetings and arranging advertising, venues and speakers relating to committees initiatives. The manager will assist with the formation and monitoring of various sub committees and analyze sub- committee effectiveness comparative to the committee mandate.
Community Presence & Campus Coordination
The Tourism Manager will be the primary contact for all organizations and businesses involved in tourism. This role will involve keeping abreast of all tourism activities in the area and region that will benefit and enhance our local product. The Tourism Manager will also encourage feedback from all involved in Tourism to inform the committee on areas for improvement and potential opportunities in the area.
Information to Public:
The Tourism Manager will be actively involved in providing information on Tourism through individual meetings, speaking engagements and correspondence. The Manger will produce information pieces and develop communication lines with operators to get buy in on area initiatives. The Tourism Manager will present to City Council the yearly tourism activities and stats and also on a needs basis.
Support for Festivals and Operators
The Tourism Manager will act as a resource to Festivals and other volunteer groups that are related to the tourism direction set out by the committee. The Tourism Manager will provide information and advice to these groups to facilitate their event and will provide limited assistance in sourcing government grants and funding. The Tourism Manager will work with the committee to assist the local operators in training, web presence, and group initiatives.
The Tourism Manager directs and coordinates administrative duties within the Tourism office, organizing roles and duties for support staff and volunteers. The manager is responsible for all staff hiring, training, coaching and yearly staff reviews. The manager is responsible for all aspects of the retail operation including pricing, ordering, inventory control, and customer service. The Tourism Manager is responsible for their own budgets and has a clear understanding of budgets and profit and loss statements. The budget will be approved by the Executive Director and Chamber Board of Directors. The Tourism Manager must have knowledge of student grants and other government grant applications.
