Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame Inducted 10 New Members on Friday – VIDEO

Brockville – The Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame inducted 10 new members to the hall of fame for its 25th year on Friday at the Brockivlle Memorial Centre.

Being inducted to this year’s sports hall of fame in the Pro Category were:

Andy Stewart: who played with the Brockville Bunnies and then went on to a short stint with the Kansas City Royals. He also played for Team Canada, was a Toronto Blue Jays bullpen catcher and the one who pitched to Carlos Delgado at the Home Run Hitting contest at the All-Star Game.

Lawrence Fox: an outstanding fastball player with the old Brockville Diggers. He was known as Scoop for his outstanding defensive play at Third base.

Cory Rasenberg Fox: an all-round athlete in track and field and the pentathlon at the University of Western Ontario. She was into their Hall of Fame

Bob Mills: Founder and driving force behind the Rideau St. Lawrence Kings AA Midget Hockey Association. Along with Jacques Martin, former Coach of the Ottawa Senators, founded the 3S (systems, skills and skating).

Wally White: A long time successful coach, manager, executive member and participant in a variety of sports. He coached senior Boy’s high school football and basketball for over 30 years

As well the Committee elected 5 members prior to 1940:

Craig Swayze – Brockville Rowing Club

James Roderick Maclaren – Brockville Rowing Club

Jo-Jo Graboski – Brockville Magedomas Polish Flash – offered a contract with the Chicago Black Hawks but because he only had one eye, the league wouldn’t allow it

Albert Charles “Dubbie” Kerr – Brockville’s Forgotten All-star – a member of two Stanley Cup Champion Teams with the Old Ottawa Senators

Ed Brown – for 75 years he taught baseball to youngsters in Prescott. There is a Ball Park named after him in the fort town.

Also announced were the Caoching of the Year Award, Volunteering Award, the Sports Person of the Year and the Team of the Year.

The winner of the Recorder and Times Coaching award was Brian Purcell of South Grenville. Steve Polite of Prescott and Peter Hickling of Athens share the Investor’s Group Volunteering Award.

The Sports Person of the Year went to Cameron Locke for Swimming, while the Team of the Year went to the Brockville Midget Blazers Basketball
