Brockville – This past Monday night the Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame committee elected 5 new members to the Hall.
Professional Soccer goalie Coach Mike Toshack; Life time baseball umpire and organizer Ralph McMullen; Hockey coach Dave Saunders; Long distance runner Paula Wiltse and TISS Track & Field champion Josh Jonker.
They will be inducted in a special ceremony at the Brockville Memorial Centre on June 15th.
The Kinsmen Sports Hall of Fame banquet is on June 14th when those attending will vote for the Athlete and Team of the year.
This year’s nominees are Power boat champion Bert Henderson; Track & Field champ Dillon Landon; Canadian Junior Figure Skating Champion Matthew Markell; Shot put and Discus champ Lucas Woodhall and Natalie Peddell and Leigha Geraghty Henley Rowing champions .
Up for team of the year honours are: The Midget C Angels Girls Hockey team; The upper Canada River Otters, The Ange Gabriel Intermediate girls Basketball Team; The Blazers Midget Girls basketball team and the TISS Boys Track & Field Team.
The Recorder and Times Coaching award goes to Mike Horan while the Investor’s Group Volunteering award winner is Hugh Bates.
Tickets for the Kinsmen Banquet will be available this weekend at the Quickie Post Office, Kensington Plaza, Flower Brockville in the Kent Plaza; The Brockville Smoke Shop downtown and at Yonge’s of Prescott. Tickets are $30 and deadline for buying is Friday June 8th. ONLY 200 tickets are being sold for the dinner.
The Hall of Fame Golf Tournament is Saturday June 9th at the Prescott Golf Club.
