BGH construction starts in March

Brockville – With contracts between Brockville General Hospital (BGH), Infrastructure Ontario, and EllisDon Corporation anticipated to be finalized shortly, construction is scheduled to start early in March.

The first phase of construction includes the demolition of all buildings between Charles Street and the railway. Demolition will include the MacDougall Building, former Red Cross building and storage units. The Medical Arts building, located on the corner of Ormond and Charles streets will not be impacted. Next, work will begin on new parking lots, located between Charles Street and the railway tracks. The new parking lot will accommodate more vehicles and the relocation will make room for the new tower. Timing of this work is March to June 2018.

The staff entrance, located at the loading dock will be removed. As part of the project, a secondary entrance into the building is being developed. With safety being the top priority on the project, hoarding will be installed and all staff access to this entrance will be prohibited. All staff will be required to enter and exit through the main entrance, located off the traffic circle. Deliveries will be carefully monitored by the construction team to ensure everyone’s safety. Timing is scheduled for April 2018.

Access to the Emergency parking lot will be temporarily changed. To provide appropriate road variance for construction equipment and hospital traffic, the Emergency parking lot entrance will be temporarily modified. In the short-term, both the entrance and exit will be relocated to the current entrance, which is located off Ormond Street. This change will have no impact to emergency services vehicles arriving at BGH. Work in this area is scheduled for April 2018.

The safety of our community, staff and construction teams are our top priority! Please remember there is no parking on Charles Street or at the MacDougall Building.
