Brockville – Brockville General Hospital is working closely with the Trillium Gift of Life Network to raise awareness about the value of donor registration.
Brockville General Hospital (BGH) are asking for the community’s help. BGH is working closely with the Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) to raise awareness about the value of donor registration.
According to the TGLN website, every three days someone dies in Ontario because the life-saving organ transplant they need is not available, yet less than 30% of Ontarians have registered their consent to be a donor. And there are over 1,500 people in our province waiting for organ transplants and the thousands more waiting for tissue transplants.
“As a hospital, we need to do our part,” shares Dr. Robert Malone, Chief of Staff at BGH. “Organ and tissue donation has the power to save lives and keep families together. It is our responsibility to help bring this awareness to the community.”
BGH is committed to doing their part to raise awareness. The Hospital has built an online registration page at www.BeADonor.ca/BrockvilleGeneralHospital.
To support community outreach, Hospital staff have been visible at several community events over the month, including the 1000 Islands Mall, Brockville Braves games and at the St. Lawrence College, Brockville Campus. This week, volunteers are available at the Hospital’s main site to register patients and visitors. BGH will also be at the Home Show at the Memorial Centre in Brockville on April 27 and 28.
“It just takes about two minutes – and your health card. Our volunteers can assist you in signing up or verifying your registration,” says Malone.
According to the TGLN website, registering to be a donor might be the greatest gift you ever give. If you’d hope a live-saving transplant would be available for your friends and loved ones, please register today. For more information, visit www.BeADonor.ca/BrockvilleGeneralHospital.
