Brockville – The annual ‘Take Back The Night’ hosted by Victim Issues Coordinating Committee of Leeds & Grenville was held on Friday, September 9th at Hardy Park in Downtown Brockville.
The event ran from 5:30pm to 9:00pm and featured information booths fro several organizations, including Leeds-Grenville Interval House.
It is heldv to symbolize women’s rights to be where they want, when they want and how they want in a world where there is no violence.
There was also live music by Dan Schaafsma, Glow in the dark Zumba by Meredith Armstrong – YMCA, Free BBQ, cotton candy, and popcorn and an activity zone.
The rally & march was held at the end of the event and the march travelled from Hardy Park up to King Street to City Hall and then back to Hardy Park.
All across Canada, Take Back the Night events will be taking place throughout the month of September. Events can include marches, rallies, candlelight vigils and are designed to raise awareness of the safety issues women and children face in our country. Take Back the Night is about women reclaiming the right to be free of violence and be able to be wherever they may choose to be at night without being fearful.
