Prescott/Brockville – The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics made its way through Prescott and Brockville this past week. This is the 30th anniversary of the Torch Run in Ontario.
On Wednesday morning, June 7th the Torch Run was held in Prescott. It started at Walker House on King Street at 9:30am and travelled east on King Street to Edward Street, north on Edward to South Grenville District High School and finsihed up at the Prescott detachment of the OPP.
Grade 7 & 8 students from South Grenville participated in this years run.
The torch run was held in Brockville on Thursday morning, June 8th. It started out from the Metro parking lot on King Street, travelling east on King Street to Courthouse, to Wall Street to Pearl and then north on Stewart Blvd., finsihing up at the Home Hardware where a charity BBQ was held.
The OPP and local municipal forces in Ontario have been hosting Torch Runs for 30 years and have raised 35 million dollars.
Funds raised from the events are used to run Special Olympics Provincial and National Games.
