Brockville – The 5th annual Eastern Ontario Active Transportation Summit is being held this Thursday, May 10th and Friday morning, May 11th at the Brockville Memorial Centre.
It runs from 8:30am to 4:30pm on Thursday. Like previous events the summit provides a learning and networking opportunity for those interested in helping their municipalities become healthier and more active places to live, work and play, and better able to compete in attracting and retaking families, talent and new business.
Are you a downtown business person, who wants to discover the economic potential of pedestrian and cycle friendly communities? Or a town planner, or staff person, wanting to learn best practice techniques for building a healthier town? Maybe you’re a resident that wants to be able to get around your community more easily and safely, on foot or on a bike. Come learn about simple concepts that make towns healthier, more vibrant, and stronger economically.
Thursday will feature The active transport plan, the health imperative, best demonstarated practices and lessons learned, proviincial trens, programs and funding, rural and small town considerations. Speakers will include, Dr. Micheal Cheng, child and family psychiatrist at CHEO, Justin Jones with Share the Road, Dave McLaughlin, WSP National Active Transportation Planning & Design Lead andGreen Communities Canada for Active School Travel.
On Friday morning from 8:30am till noon there will be a choice of two workshops, Cycle Tourism by Ontario By Bike or Municipal round table with leading consultants on case examples and issues for rural/small town municipalities.
