Lansdowne, ON – The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands and the Town of Gananoque are hosting the annual Community Recognition Event on Thursday June 14, 2018. This free event will be held at Furnace Falls Farm in Lyndhurst Ontario to celebrate the Community Grant Program recognized by each community. All are welcome to attend.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission plays an important role in both communities and this event allows the municipalities to celebrate their award recipients from their respective community grant programs.

“OLG is proud of the role we play in strengthening Leeds and the Thousand Islands and Gananoque and each of our host communities,” said Jake Pastore, OLG’s Director of Municipal and Community Relations, “Each and every year 100 per cent of OLG proceeds are invested in Ontario. Since the opening of Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands in 2002, OLG has provided more than $26.78 million in hosting funds. From healthcare, to education, to community festivals, OLG proceeds are hard at work in Leeds and the Thousand Islands and Gananoque and all across our province. We also appreciate the contribution of the local casino employees in making life in Leeds and the Thousand Islands and Gananoque that much richer.”

This year approximately $136,000 of community grants will be funded from lottery proceeds in both municipalities. This contribution toward community development goes directly to groups who care passionately about enhancing our quality of life. The Garden Party is our way to commend these organizations for their efforts and let them know how much their contributions are appreciated.

Some recent grant recipients from both the Town and Township include: 1000 Islands Gananoque Chamber of Commerce, 1000 Islands Writers Festival and Gananoque Public Library, Thousand Islands Boat Museum, Thousand Islands Youth Boxing, Thousand Islands ATV Club, Thousand Islands Festivals & Events, and the Arthur Child Heritage Museum.
