1000 Islands Writers Festival Launch Party Fundraiser Being Held Saturday in Gananoque

Gananoque – Join us in celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary at the Thousand Islands Playhouse Firehall Theatre with An Evening of Food and Frivolity in the company of Sir John A. MacDonald.

The setting, small town tavern frequented by Canada’s future Prime Minister, will welcome you to take a step back in time to the year 1867 where you will experience a moment in history when a new nation was about to be formed – a land that would be known as Canada.

The Launch Party Fundraiser will take place this Saturday, April 1st, 2017 starting at 7:30 pm and will be an event steeped in history and merriment.

As one of our region’s first Canada 150 events to mark the milestone anniversary, the evening will be a celebration of the nation’s history through Sir John’s favorite food, drink and stories from the year the country was born. The event will pay tribute to Canada’s First Prime Minister and will look past the facade of the iconic man to better appreciate who John A truly was.

Special guest Lindy Mechefske, author of Sir John’s Table, winner of the 2016 Taste Canada Food Writing Awards Gold Award for Culinary Narratives, will set the stage for the evening by sharing stories of the food and customs of the times while providing an insider’s view of Sir John’s life after office hours. A surprise special guest will add to the night and help bring the persona of Sir John A. to life with additional stories, humour and lore.

Adding to the 1867 tavern atmosphere is the Celtic Folk band Turpin’s Trail. The music and energy of this much-loved band will have toes tapping throughout night with a wealth of original & traditional songs and tunes.

The 1000 Islands Writer’s Festival Launch Party Fundraiser will be an experience for guests to mix, mingle and explore their past and is sure to be one event not to miss on the Canada 150 sesquicentennial calendar. The event is made possible thanks to the partnership of the Thousand Islands Playhouse and sponsorship by the Gananoque Brewing Company.

Tickets are $45 and are available through the Gananoque Public Library 613-382-2436 or online at 1000islandswritersfestival.ca

The The 2017 Festival is being held from Friday May 5 to Sunday May 7, 2017.
