OTTAWA – On March 13, 2019 at approximately 10:15 a.m. officers with the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 417 eastbound at the Maitland interchange.
The investigation has found that a 71-year old male driver had experienced medical distress before his vehicle collided with a traffic barrier. The vehicle then landed in the driving lanes and was struck by a second vehicle.
Ottawa Firefighters extricated the 71 year old from the wreckage and he was transported to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle was not hurt and there were no other occupants of either vehicle.
The eastbound lanes of the 417 were closed for a short time.
The investigation is continuing.
