Ottawa – The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) will continue its community safety initiatives to reduce incidents of crime and public disorder in the ByWard Market, Downtown Rideau and Vanier areas, beginning the evening of June 14.
This is the third such community safety initiative in 2019 the OPS will conduct in conjunction with Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, OC Transpo and City ByLaw partners.
“We will take a zero tolerance approach to disorderly behaviour, such as Liquor Licence Act offences, criminal activity and aggressive panhandling that can negatively impact residents, visitors and businesses, in the ByWard Market, Rideau Street and Montreal Road areas,” said OPS Frontline Superintendent Mark Ford. “We want to ensure that people enjoy our beautiful city, but do so in a safe and respectful environment.”
The Community Safety Initiatives will take place every weekend through the month of June.
Police is reminding the public of the important role everyone can play in their neighbourhood’s safety. ‘If you see a crime, report it’.
