Smiths Falls – The Heritage House Museum cannot wait for October! We have a full month of events and special exhibits on its way.

Kick off the month starting October 1st with the NEW Escape Room set in the late 1880s. At the time there were two competing electric companies in Smiths Falls- the Smiths Falls Electric Power Company vs the Smiths Falls Electric Light Company. Be corporate spies and steal the competitors plans and escape the room within 50 minutes! $20 per participant (50% off until October 8th). Pre-register by calling 613-283-6311 or email heritagehouse@smithsfalls.ca.

Every Thursday evening, discover the mysterious and spooky tales from Smiths Falls’ past during our Ghost Walks. Explore the Victorian Mourning exhibit by candlelight as costumed guides uncover mysterious tales from the museum, Smiths Falls and area. For more information about this event, please see its event page here on Facebook. $10 adults, $5 children (12 and under) from 6pm to 8pm.

The last two weekends of October will feature a Haunted House! Dared to be scared at Heritage House Museum. Stay tuned for more information. $5 per victim, includes general admission to the museum and exhibits.

While these events are happening, we also have two fantastic exhibits on display.
On right now until the end of October is The Last Grand Duchess: a private collection of textiles and memorabilia of her Imperial Highness Olga Alexandrovna. Personal photographs and textiles tell the story of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, daughter of Emperor Alexander III of Russia and sister of Tsar Nicholas II. After the assassination of her family during the Russian Revolution, she came to Canada with her husband to live a simpler life operating a Canadian farm. These items are now the private collection of Smiths Falls resident Paul Byington.
For the month of October the period rooms will be transformed for the “Saved By the Bell: Victorian Mourning” exhibit. Learn about Victorian traditions and superstitions surrounding death and mourning and experience how a Victorian home would be transformed during the mourning period.
Heritage House Museum is excited to kick off the fall season. The museum will be open from 10am to 5pm Wednesday, Friday to Sunday and 12pm to 8pm on Thursday for the month of October.
