Welcoming Winchester Hospital Babies!

Winchester – Thanks to our generous donors, new Moms now have new birthing beds at Winchester District Memorial Hospital! Generous WDMH Foundation donors have provided funds to replace one of our birthing beds and to purchase an additional bed.

A birthing bed differs from a regular hospital bed in a number of ways. It has stirrups, can move into a fully upright position, and has a removable end. The old bed had to be set up and adjusted manually during the labour and delivery process, which was inefficient. The new beds are designed to be ergonomic for both the patient and the healthcare provider and allow adjustments to be made quickly and efficiently.

“This past year, 737 babies were born at WDMH,” notes the Foundation’s Managing Director Kristen Casselman. “WDMH is tremendously proud of its maternity program and the standard of care we have established for our obstetrics department. That includes our birthing beds. Thank you to our donors!”

Many expectant parents choose to deliver at WDMH because of its reputation. In 2012, WDMH was named Ontario’s Top Performer in Maternity Care, with 89.5% of new mothers indicating they would refer others to the program. The most recent patient satisfaction results say 100% of the maternity patients surveyed would recommend WDMH.

These beds allow for the anticipated growth in the number of babies born at WDMH. The new beds cost $42,710.
