Winchester – The WDMH Emergency Department has a new Glidescope, thanks to generous Foundation donors!
“The Glidescope is a video laryngoscope,” explains Clinical Manager Laura Landry. “This piece of equipment is a standard of care in emergency departments in Canada.
It ensures we can quickly and properly secure a patient’s airway and manage their breathing. Often in critical situations, intubation of the patient can be difficult without a clear view of the airway. The Glidescope provides a clear, real time view of the patient’s airway to enable quick intubation of the critical patient.”
Airway management is required in the ER for many different presentations: severe allergic reaction, pain management, burns, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, neurological emergencies, multi system traumas and others.
“We are incredibly grateful for not having to practice without this important piece of equipment,” adds Laura.
“Thank you to the donors.”
The cost of the Glidescope was $11,309.79.
