Merrickville – On Feb 9th and 10th, Theatre Night in Merrickville hosted a Play Writers Workshop with Michael Clipperton

In a career that spans more years than he cares to remember, Michael has been a director, playwright, actor, singer, designer, producer, teacher, workshop leader, adjudicator, administrator and university lecturer. He holds an Honours Degree in Theatre (York U), a Bachelor of Education (UofT) and a Masters Degree in Drama (UofT). For 26 years, Michael was a Drama and English teacher for the Simcoe County District School Board. Since 2014, he has been an instructor in the Faculty of Education at Lakehead University (Orillia Campus).

As a workshop leader, Michael has led workshops in directing, playwriting and acting for several organizations across southern Ontario, including Brockville Theatre Guild and Gaslight Productions, Collingwood. As a playwright, Michael has co-written some 15 murder mysteries, created specifically for dinner theatre. He has also written several one-act plays including Eight Short Plays About Mary McKay, Conversations With Myself, and The Next Act. Michael is the Outreach Coordinator for Supporting Performing Arts in Rural Communities (SPARC), an organization based in Haliburton, whose mission is to build networks across Ontario for performing artists who live and work in rural areas.

Nine budding playwrights came together for a weekend of hard work writing and collaborating with each other. Of course a bit of fun was had as well.
