Prescott – This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Torch Run in Ontario. Special Olympics is the charity of choice for the Ontario Associations of Chiefs of Police. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has embraced this charity, along with other law enforcement agencies through participation in the annual Torch Run.
On Wednesday June 7th 2017, members of the Grenville County OPP, Canadian Border Security personal, area Special Olympics athletes and students from South Grenville District High School will walk or run along King Street and Edward Street, in Prescott. Some participants of this run will be stopping motorists, or members of the public to ask if they would like to place a donation in the buckets. All proceeds will go towards the local Special Olympics programs.
Members of the public are also welcome to participate. The Prescott Torch Run starts at 9:30am on June 7th. The start location is at the rear of Prescott’s Walker House, located at 623 King Street West.
Additionally, on June 10th, Prescott will host the 2nd annual Kingston and the Islands Law Enforcement Torch Ride. More than 100 motorcycles and riders from Kingston, Ottawa and Cornwall will be arriving at the Prescott Fort around 11:30am. The public is welcome to join in, view the bikes and make a lunch purchase from the charity BBQ.
