Johnstown – On Sunday, the Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal was thrilled to partner with the South Edwardsburgh Recreation Association (SERA) and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for an exciting day of fun in the sun.  SERA invited to community to its annual pool party at the Johnstown Pool, featuring lots of games and a BBQ.  Local MPP Steve Clark and Rai King, an Ontario Trillium Foundation volunteer were also there to formally congratulate the Township on receiving a $34,500 Ontario150 Community Capital Program grant earlier this year.

“On behalf of the Province of Ontario, I’m pleased to join the Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal and the South Edwardsburgh Recreation Association in celebrating this Ontario 150 Community Capital Grant,” said Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark. “The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s investment in the Johnstown Pool ensures this important community facility can continue to provide recreation opportunities and water safety programs to children and adults alike.”

Funds from the grant will be used to help SERA and the Township replace the pool’s filtration system. The current filtration system is original to the pool, installed in the 1970’s, and is need of replacement to ensure that the pool can remain open.

The Johnstown pool is a valuable community asset used by thousands in the Township every summer for swimming lessons, free daily public swimming, summer camp, adult and senior programming such as aquafit as well as for the local swim team.

Administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, which is an agency of the Government of Ontario, Ontario150 Community Capital Program grants are helping non-profit organizations, municipalities and Indigenous communities renovate, repair and retrofit existing community and cultural infrastructure. The one-time, Ontario150 grant has been designed to help honour Ontario’s past, showcase the present and inspire future generations.
