Upper Canada – Five Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) students from four schools across the region were awarded gold medals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) Track and Field Championships, held June 6 – 8 in Guelph.
Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS) had two gold medal champions in two different events. Wyatt Knapp, grade 11, placed first in the Senior Boys pole vault, jumping 4.20m. Benayo Olak, grade 12, took home gold in Senior Boys triple jump with a jump of 14.38m. The TISS men’s team was awarded the overall Men’s OFSSA champions.
Rebecca Dobbs, a grade 12 student at Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School set an OFSAA record in Women’s Shot Put (Intellectually Imp.) throwing 9.03m, beating the second-place winner by 0.94m.
Spencer Lewis, a grade 10 student at Carleton Place High School took home gold in Junior Boys shot put, throwing a best score of 17.52m, nearly a meter farther than the silver medalist.
Kaylee Clark, a grade 10 student at Gananoque Secondary School took home gold in Junior Girls javelin, throwing a personal best of 41.73m, which was 3.71m farther than the silver medalist.
“It is a great accomplishment to be a top high school athlete in all of Ontario,” said John McAllister, Chair of the Board. “Our students have been training hard this school year and we are very proud of all who competed over the weekend.”
